The Dance of the Enchantress’, this genre was invented in medieval times for the delectation of courtly male connoisseurs of Kathakali. The legendary poet of the Malabar, Vallathol, was pivotal in rescuing this art from dereliction. This slow, seductive form is usually danced to langourous tunes taken from the old Kerala tradition of Sopana Sangeetam with distinct lyrics.
