With his talent and passion towards musical sounds and notes, music composer and multi-instrumentalist Kanchman Babbar has endeavored to let soulful melodies glide into our lives.
Deeply rooted in classical music, Kanchman Babbar is a native of India. Receiving his bachelor’s degree from D.U and M.B.A degree from A.I.M.A (Delhi), his musical journey began with lessons in flute at the age of 14.
Right from the time of college his name is heralded as best student performer as he gave many winning performances consecutively at all colleges of Delhi. Although he is a trained classical flautist but the touch and highlights of western classical style can be easily seen, as he received his training from Trinity College of Music (Delhi). He is amongst the brightest and most talented sound engineers of our times and is known for his many successful performances around the globe; Mauritius under ICCR (Indian Council of Cultural Relations), America, Canada, Spain and U.K to name some.
As a flautist
Years of practice coupled with spontaneity has rendered both style and substance to his interpretation of Flute. He also excellently plays Penny whistle, Metal flute, Kena, Didgeridoo and, Sipsi.
It is pleasure seeing him perform as he establishes a powerful connection with his audiences. Besides being a talented flautist, he is trained in playing authentic Turkish instruments like ‘Ney’ and ‘Duduk’ and is also known as first Indian Neyzen (Ney player).
As a music composer
Kanchman Babbar has explored various genres of music like meditative, dance and dynamism, experimental, Sufi, global rhythms, contemporary, Indian classical, devotional, punjabi pop, instrumental and film music both for Bollywood and regional films.
His music has the quality of affording easy familiarity and sociability. He has the ability to successfully experiment with music and yet not loose the classical touch. He composes great music for meditation, healing, relaxation, whirling and poetry and with equal panache can compose music for remixes, Bollywood and Punjabi pop and hip-hop. This unique flexibility comes from the vision that is not bound and stagnant to any particular pattern.
His music is a perfect blend of dynamism and rhythmical smoothness. Intricate musical notes textured and produced thoughtfully, they are reflection of his personality which has immense depth and humbleness.
Kanchman Babbar professional musical career can be traced through his wonderful music compositions for albums like Odyssey of Love, Beyond Boundaries, Shoonya, Shiv Namonkar, Bawari Jogan, Rumi- Love at its Zenith, Sacred Spaces, Tratak- A Divine Gaze, Kahe Kabira, Nanak Aaya to name a few.
Kanchman’s musical magic took a beautiful turn with the presence and fragrance of enlightened mystic Anandmurti Gurumaa. This spiritual meeting has paved way to great musical and meditative albums like ‘Sacred Spaces’, ‘Tratak- A divine gaze’ and many more. These albums are soaked in the richfulness of various percussions and masterfully played music pieces, the latest milestone being ‘Odyssey of Love’.
Sur, Saaz, Sangeet are like mind, body and soul; once a perfect harmony strikes between them, the music spells an unmentionable magic in the heart of the listener. Odyssey of Love is the perfect example of above elements. The five track musical offering in this album weaves a climate of in-depth-serenity and is a source of pure joy and peace. Reverberating sounds of Turkish Ney and flute are true ways of heart to heart communication.
Kanchman Babbar’s entry in Bollywood will commence with a title track composition “Nit khair manga’ for Sanjay Dutt’s Sarhad Paar movie.
